Mentorship is core to my personal and professional mission.

Here’s how to work with me:

  • Open to everyone: I have an office hour on Friday mornings. Anyone can sign up; it’s free. I’ve spoken with writers, filmmakers, people applying for MFAs, people who want to work in journalism or at NBC, people building freelance careers…pretty much anything. You can sign up here.

  • For writers applying to MFA programs: I spent a couple years as a mentor for MFA App Review, which sought to provide support for underrepresented writers applying to MFAs. While that project is no longer active, I still mentor writers who would’ve qualified. This mentorship cycle begins every August and is four months long. We will work on your statement of purpose and writing sample, in either fiction or nonfiction. Email me for more info. I have one spot left for the 2024-2025 application season. I do this work on a volunteer basis and ask you to pay it forward.

  • For documentary filmmakers: I am currently a mentor at Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism at CUNY, mentoring thesis students in the documentary program. Due to this work I am not currently accepting individual filmmakers as mentees. But sign up for office hours and we can talk through your project.

  • For formerly incarcerated filmmakers or writers: I am a former mentor at Second Chance Studios, an organization teaching digital media skills to formerly incarcerated individuals. That program is on hiatus, but I am always open to discussing the projects and creative goals to those who would’ve qualified. Email me.
