Jillian Eugenios is an Emmy Award-winning documentary filmmaker, a journalist and a writer. She has filmed, directed and produced dozens of documentaries, and as a reporter has covered breaking news, politics, LGBTQ+ issues and economic inequality for NBC, CNN Business and the Today show. Her work has been recognized with several awards and nominations, including a Gracie Award for exemplary reporting for and about women. She is currently a senior producer at NBC News.
In Jillian’s more personal work, she explores institutional oppression, religious indoctrination and queer identity. She works across a variety of mediums and genres, and has a particular interest in multimedia storytelling and experimental narrative structures. Much of her work relies heavily on archival research, historical texts and oral histories.
Jillian’s forthcoming documentary film, which explores her personal connection to the criminal justice system, is generously supported by The Sundance Institute and The Marshall Project.
Previously, Jillian was a founding member and senior producer at Great Big Story, a CNN company dedicated to cinematic documentary storytelling. Together with her colleagues, the Great Big Story team created nearly 3,000 films shot in over 100 countries over a period of five years.
Jillian holds an MFA in fiction and nonfiction from The New School. She is also a graduate of the CUNY Graduate School of Journalism, where she focused on multimedia storytelling and business and economics reporting. She is a now a mentor in the documentary program at the CUNY and a board member of the CUNY LGBTQ+ Advisory Council.
Jillian lives in New York City with her wife, rescue puppy and 27 houseplants.
